چکیده

In this Paper the potential of multi-temporal PolSARdata for soil surface roughness estimation is investigated. The study utilizes microwave backscatter collected from the Demmin test-site in the North-East Germany during the whole agri-phenological cycle in 2006 using quad-pol L-Band SLC E-SAR data. For ground truthing soil surface roughness were measured using photogrammetric imaging techniques. The correlation between several ground truth roughness inidces and three well established polarimetric roughness estimators showed only good results for Re[RRLL]. Final results in form of multi-temporal roughness maps showed only satisfying results due to the fact that the presence and development of particular plants affected the derivation.

Multi-Feature Segmentation for High-Resolution Polarimetric SAR Data Based on Fractal Net Evolution Approach

Segmentation techniques play an important role in understanding high-resolution polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) images. PolSAR image segmentation is widely used as a preprocessing step for subsequent classification, scene interpretation and extraction of surface parameters. However, speckle noise and rich spatial features of heterogeneous regions lead to blurred boundaries of hig...

Preliminary analysis of distributed in situ soil moisture measurements

Surface soil moisture content is highly variable in both space and time. Remote sensing can provide an effective methodology for mapping surface moisture content over large areas but ground based measurements are required to test its reliability and to calibrate retrieval algorithms. Recently, we had the opportunity to design and perform an experiment aimed at jointly acquiring measurements of ...

Glacier Surface Monitoring by Maximizing Mutual Information

The contribution of Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) images compared with the single-channel SAR in terms of temporal scene characterization has been found and described to add valuable information in the literature. However, despite a number of recent studies focusing on single polarized glacier monitoring, the potential of polarimetry to estimate the surface velocity of glaciers...

A Multi-Sensor Approach for High Resolution Airborne Soil Moisture Mapping

Airborne remote sensing provides a viable option for high resolution mapping of nearsurface soil moisture that allows larger areas to be covered in greater spatial and temporal detail than has hereto been possible from traditional ground based techniques. However, the current retrieval algorithms require information on near-surface soil temperature and vegetation water content in order to estim...

Creating Multi-Temporal Composites of Airborne Imaging Spectroscopy Data in Support of Digital Soil Mapping

An increasing demand for full spatio-temporal coverage of soil information drives the growing use of soil spectroscopy. Soil spectroscopy application performed under laboratory conditions or in-field studies in semi-arid areas have shown promising results. However, when acquiring data in temperate zones, limitations by vegetation-free coverage, variation in soil moisture and management are driv...
